ABOUT THE PLAY:
"All children, except one, grow up."

First produced on Broadway with Mary Martin and Cyril Richard and more recently a major hit starring Cathy Rigby, this is one of the world's most celebrated musicals. Here is all the charm of J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan, Tinker Bell, Captain Hook, the children Wendy, Michael and John, pirates and Indians, embellished with show-stopping songs, "Never Never Land", "I Won't Grow Up" and "I'm Flying".

"As wondrous as it has been since in first appeared on Broadway." — Boston Globe

"Bountiful, good-natured. ... A vastly amusing show." — N.Y. Times

"A delightful entertainment. . . . The young in heart of all ages will love it.'' — N. Y. Daily Mirror

"The musical version of this most endearing of all theatrical fantasies is a captivating show." — N.Y. Daily News

CASTING / ROLES:
All roles are open. Equity & Non- Equity actors needed. Principals and ensemble. "Character" ages are indicated below.

The parts of the character descriptions below that are in quotes are from Peter Pan author James M. Barrie.

The Darling family
- The Darling family are from England and should have appropriate dialects.

Michael Darling - 6 - 10 yrs.
The youngest Darling child, "Michael would like to be an Indian."

Wendy
Darling - 11 - 16 yrs. The oldest of the Darling children, Wendy is a young girl, just on the threshold of womanhood. She easily befriends Peter and becomes his and her brothers’ surrogate mother.

John
Darling - 9 - 14 yrs. The middle Darling child, "John thinks he wants to be a pirate and plays at that much of the time."

Mrs. Darling - 30's - 40's. The mother of the three children and wife of Mr. Darling, Mrs. Darling is loving and imaginative, almost a perfect foil for Mr. Darling.

Mr. Darling
- 30's - 40's. The father of Wendy, John, and Michael and husband of Mrs. Darling, Mr. Darling is a stern and unimaginative man. He does, however, love his children and only wants what is best for them. The actor who plays Mr. Darling will most likely also play Captain Hook.

Nana -
The loving and very capable nurse for the Darling children, Nana just happens to be a dog.

Liza - the "Darling's" maid. late teens or twenties.

Older Wendy - 30's. Wendy grown up.

Jane - 11 - 16 yrs.
Wendy’s daughter, when Wendy grows up and marries, Jane, too, gets to know Peter Pan.

Peter Pan - This role could be cast early teens - 30's / male or female - it is wide open.
Because he never wanted to grow up, Peter Pan ran away when he was born. He now lives with and is the leader of the lost boys in the Neverland. He can be gentle and kind, but is usually mischievous, selfish, and a little uncaring. He does, however, care for Wendy. In the end he stays in the Neverland, where time stands still.

Crocodile - Ever since Peter Pan fed Hook's hand to the crododile, it has wanted to finish the meal. The actor playing Nana will also play the crocodile.

Lion, Kangaroo & Ostrich - Enchanted animals in Neverland that have some human characteristics. Actors playing Indians or Pirates will double.

The Lost Boys -
Ages 6 - 25 yrs. The Lost Boys will be cast multi-ethnic/racial. There are six with speaking roles - a few additional may be cast as well.

Slightly -
Slightly is “the brightest of the boys” because he can “remember” the days before they were lost.

Tootles -
One of the lost boys who fell out of his perambulator when a baby, he now lives in the Neverland. He is “not the least brave but the most unfortunate,” having been in fewer adventures than the others.

Nibs -
Nibs is, in his words, “smart and debonair.”

Curly -
Curley is usually in trouble with Peter, “guilty or not.”

1st Twin -
Twin 1 “cannot be described” because we would probably be describing his brother.

2nd Twin - Ditto.

The Pirates - Ages 15 - 70's. The Pirates will be cast multi-ethnic/racial. Aside from Captain Hook, there are six with speaking roles. Additional pirates may be cast as well.

Captain James Hook
-
The captain of the pirate band, Hook is “the largest jewel of the lot.” He hates Peter Pan because Peter cut off his hand in an earlier battle and fed it to the crocodile. Since then Hook has replaced the hand with a menacing hook. However, he is deathly afraid of the crocodile, fearing it would like to finish the meal. The actor who plays Mr. Darling will most likely also play Captain Hook.

Smee -
The Irish Smee is “an oddly genial man who stabbed, so to speak, without offense.” Hook's right hand man.

Cecco -
The handsome Cecco “cut his name in letters of blood on the back of the warden of the prison at Gao.”

Bill Jukes -
Bill was once a “notorious truancy officer.”

Starkey -
Starkey was “once a principal in public school.”

Mullins -
One of a “villainous looking lot,” Mullins and the pirates are all more talk and bombast than action.

Noodler -
The terrifying Noodler “was once a head master at a boys school.”

The Indians - Ages 6 - 40's. The Indians will be cast multi-ethnic/racial. Most (but not all) of the Indians will need to be strong dancers. Gymnastics ability is also a plus.

Tiger Lily - teens - 30's. Leader and princess of the Piccadilly Tribe (“not to be confused with the softer-hearted Delawares or the Hurons”), Tiger Lily is proud, brave, and beautiful. Like all of her tribe, she has a soft heart and befriends Peter and the lost boys.
