ABOUT THE PLAY
UNDERNEATH THE LINTEL, Glen Berger’s critically acclaimed play, is a mystery story about understanding life and the human desire to say, “I was here.” A Dutch librarian, whose life is radically changed when he discovers a 19th century travel guidebook that is 123 years overdue, seeks the individual responsible, which leads to an extraordinary journey – via a one-man show disguised as a lecture – toward spiritual renewal. The lintel? It is, literally, a horizontal support above a doorframe, but, more importantly, part of the discovery that leads our librarian-come-detective to prove one life and justify another. In its Cesear’s Forum Cleveland premiere, the play is filled with poignant humor and touching poetry – a soaring exploration of the human spirit.
